Get ready to deliver pharmacy contraception services with Confidence and Clarity’

Gloucestershire ICB working with Community Pharmacy Gloucestershire / LPC are offering FREE Pharmacy Contraception Service update to be led by

Dr Alison Ellis, GP Partner, Leckhampton Surgery and Lead Women’s Health Champion, Gloucestershire with

Louise Plumridge, Senior Pharmacist HIV & Sexual Health, Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (GHC).

This is the first of a planned series which we aim to support local women access clinically appropriate care and protect GP appointments through pharmacy and surgery teams working collaboratively.

See below learning outcomes and later in year we plan to hold further webinars before Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) and Pharmacy Technician supply of contraception under PGD are launched in October 2025 and another webinar around wider women’s health medicines available OTC in pharmacies to include recent POM to P switches.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain recent updates linked to the pharmacy contraception service e.g. GLP-1 FSRH advice.
  2. Apply the principles of the pill ladder when supporting patient-centred contraception therapeutic selection.
  3. Recognise evolving trends in 21st century pill-taking to include extended or continuous regimens that reflect user preferences.
  4. Support informed decision-making and adherence, tailored to increasingly diverse patient needs.
  5. Identify when and where to refer patients for further local sexual health support, beyond the current scope of community pharmacists
