Since 1 July 2022, CQC-registered providers must ensure staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role, as required by the Health and Care Act 2022.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the standardised training that was developed for this purpose and is the government’s preferred and recommended training for health and social care staff.

There are 2 Tiers of training depending on your role but you only have to do Tier 1 OR Tier 2 – NOT BOTH.

This guidance tells you more about who should choose which Tier, with some examples of job roles. It is up to each employer to do their own training needs analysis for their own staff. Please talk to your manager if you are unsure.

NHS Gloucestershire ICB are also running national trainer training for Tier 1 trainers on behalf of NHSE.

Please choose from the list below to access further information about either the workforce training, or about how to become an Oliver McGowan Trainer.
